Thinking Green...Everyday!Southern Aluminum is headquartered in the Natural State of Arkansas which inherently adopts a responsibility to the
well-being of Earth. As environmental awareness becomes a pertinent practice in manufacturing processes globally, our staff is making a dedicated effort to educate ourselves on a continual basis regarding methods of production that will preserve natural resources and the current state of our environment.
Recycling as Our Belief. Since the company’s inception in 1977, all Southern Aluminum products are produced from 100% aluminum extrusions and contain an initial 20% of recycled content. Aluminum, which is in the alloy family of metals, is made abundantly from bauxite which can be extracted from any continent except for Antarctica. As of today, bauxite can be generated at a projected rate of 500 years, which makes recycling a vital initiative.
As most individuals are aware, aluminum is a 100% reusable resource. Although Southern Aluminum products are engineered to last a lifetime, our tables and staging can be disassembled and recycled into new products.
The conservation of scrap materials is continually studied in the daily production process of all Southern Aluminum products. The following methods of recycling are implemented throughout our facility.
• Fall-off scrap metal from assembly is collected and recycled at a recovery facility located less than 2 miles from the Southern Aluminum
production plant.
• Powder coat paint overspray is recovered and blended to formulate a standard leg color.
Sustaining a Healthy Environment...for Everyone!Environmental sustainability goes beyond recycling. Conserving our natural resources includes consideration of air quality, water control, forest preservation, energy consumption, and the overall quality of life for everyone around the globe.
We implement several practices throughout our production facility, and as we continue to study a more proactive approach to green methods, this list will grow exponentially.
• Southern Aluminum ‘thinks locally’ by utilizing extrusions from a supplier located approximately 2 miles from our production facility. This cuts down the traditional vehicle
emissions released by commercial transportation.
• The production facility contains 57,000 square feet of space and is cooled by a fan-driven HVAC system which eliminates the need for contemporary, high-energy
consumption heating and cooling units.
• In 2002, a state-of-the art powder coating system was installed to optimize re-use of water and also minimize steam off-gas.
• We employ regimented frequent plant sanitation methods using minimal cleaning solvents.
• Flexible production methods allow for complete shut down of departments during low production demand.
• Our facility maintains a 7 hour shutdown period for every 24 hour cycle.
2006 Evergreen Award Southern Aluminum is the proud recipient of the 2006 GSA Evergreen Award for the Furniture Category. This achievement is awarded to companies that are making a concentrated effort to lighten the footprint modern society places on the environment. This award has encouraged and inspired Southern Aluminum to continue partnering with Mother Nature to preserve a healthy environment for generations to come.
Global awareness of sustaining Earth’s natural environment has quite a way to go. Every small contribution to this effort counts. At Southern Aluminum we ask ourselves everyday, what else can we do?
